Our own fitters lay it in Dubai after a free measuring visit.
Is a jute rug right for your room?
Yes, as long as the room stays dry and does not take heavy foot traffic. Jute is made from the stalk of the jute plant. It is soft for a natural fibre, warm underfoot, golden brown, and cheaper than wool. Living rooms, bedrooms and quiet corridors suit it well. Water, strong sun and heavy wear do not, so keep it out of kitchens, bathrooms and balconies. For a busy hallway or stairs, sisal is the better fibre.
Living room: yes
Slide a jute rug under the front legs of the sofa and chairs and it pulls the seating together and takes the chill off a marble or tiled floor. Braided jute looks relaxed. A flat weave sits lower under a coffee table, and chairs slide over it more easily.
Bedroom: yes, jute's best room
A bedroom gets bare feet and very little traffic, which is exactly what jute likes. Lay the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed with 50 to 60 cm showing on each side, so your feet land on it when you get up.
Hallway: a runner, if it is a quiet one
A jute runner is fine in a corridor between bedrooms. By the front door it is a different story. Sand comes in on shoes, everyone walks the same line, and jute soon flattens. A tight sisal carpet or a synthetic runner lasts longer there.
Kitchens, bathrooms and balconies: no
Water turns jute brown and sun breaks it down. Next to a sink or a bath, use a synthetic mat you can wash. For a balcony or terrace, go for a weatherproof outdoor rug. Plenty of them are woven to look like jute anyway.
| JuteFrom the jute stalk | SisalFrom the agave leaf | |
|---|---|---|
| Underfoot | Soft for a natural fibre; warm and slightly springy. | Firm and textured; a fine boucle feels smoother. |
| Wear | Light to moderate traffic, for living rooms, bedrooms and rugs. | Tough enough for hallways, stairs and busy living rooms. |
| Spills | Drinks up water and can go brown, so keep it dry. | Marks with water, so blot spills quickly. |
| Colour | Mostly its own golden brown, or bleached, with a few dyed shades. | Dyes well, so it comes in greys, colours and stripes too. |
| What we offer | Rugs in any size, and jute carpet fitted wall to wall. | Fitted wall to wall and on stairs, as sisal carpet. |
This is a general guide to the two fibres, not our stock list. Ask us on WhatsApp which jute weaves we can make your rug in.
Braided, flat-woven or blended jute?
Braided jute is a thick cord, coiled round and stitched flat. It is chunky and soft underfoot, and it is the look most people picture, but it sheds more at first and chair legs catch on it. Flat-woven jute is thinner and tighter, so it stays flat under a dining table with chairs pulled in and out. Jute blended with cotton or wool is softer still and comes in more colours. Tell us on WhatsApp the look you are after and we will show you what we can make.

What size jute rug do I need?
Measure the furniture, not the room. In a living room the rug should reach under at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs. By a bed it should run 50 to 60 cm out on each side; under a dining table, 60 cm or more past the edge, so pulled-out chairs stay on it. Leave a border of floor, usually 30 to 45 cm, between the rug and the walls.
| Size (cm) | In feet | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| 60 × 90 | 2 × 3 ft | A doorway, or beside a bed |
| 120 × 170 | 3.9 × 5.6 ft | A reading corner or a child's room |
| 160 × 230 | 5.2 × 7.5 ft | A small sofa and coffee table, or a single bed |
| 200 × 300 | 6.6 × 9.8 ft | Most living rooms, or a double or king-size bed |
| 250 × 350 | 8.2 × 11.5 ft | A large living room or dining table |
| 300 × 400 | 9.8 × 13.1 ft | A majlis or an open-plan living area |
| Round, 120 to 240 across | 3.9 to 7.9 ft across | A coffee table, or a round dining table up to about 120 cm |
| Runner, 70 × 200 to 80 × 400 | 2.3 × 6.6 to 2.6 × 13.1 ft | Hallways and corridors |
Searching in feet? 5 × 7 ft is about 152 × 213 cm, 6 × 9 ft about 183 × 274 cm, 8 × 10 ft about 244 × 305 cm and 9 × 12 ft about 274 × 366 cm. These are common sizes, not a stock list: we make jute rugs in any size.

- 65sq ft
- Width
Across the rug: yours is 200 cm. On a round rug it is the diameter, the one size a circle needs.
- Length
Along the rug, usually its longer side. A round rug has no length of its own.
- Area
6 m², about 65 sq ft: width times length, or for a round rug about 79% of the square it fits in.
- Grid
Each square is 50 × 50 cm, so you can judge the rug's size at a glance.
- Edge
The band just inside the outline is the finished edge, part of the rug. Give the outside size of the rug you want.
How do I check a size before I order?
Mark the outline on the floor in low-tack painter's tape and leave it down for a day or two. Walk round it, pull the chairs out, open the doors. If a door catches the rug, or the sofa's front legs miss it, change the size in the sizer before you send it.

What size round jute rug do I need?
Under a round table, choose a diameter about 120 cm more than the table's, so 60 cm of rug shows all round and pulled-out chairs stay on it. A round rug also suits a square room, a reading corner or the space under a round coffee table, where it should reach past the table by about the same on every side.

How long should a jute runner be?
Leave 10 to 15 cm of floor on each side of the runner and 15 to 30 cm at each end, so it frames the corridor rather than fighting the walls. In a long corridor one runner looks better than two short ones; send the corridor's width and length and we size it.
How much does a jute rug cost in Dubai?
Each jute rug is priced on its own, by size, shape and weave. A braided or chunky rug uses more jute than a thin flat weave, so it costs more, and a wool or cotton blend costs more than pure jute. Send us the size from the sizer on WhatsApp and we will reply with the price. Fitted jute carpet is priced per m² at the free visit.

Is jute cheaper than sisal or wool?
Usually, yes. Jute is one of the cheapest natural fibres, which is partly why jute rugs are so popular. Sisal usually costs more, and wool more again. Within jute, a thick braided rug costs more than a flat weave of the same size, because it takes more fibre.

How do I clean a jute rug?
Shake it, vacuum it and keep it dry. A new jute rug sheds for its first few weeks, so vacuum it gently with the brush bar off, and take small rugs outside for a good shake. If something spills, press a dry white towel on it straight away and lift, without rubbing. Do not wash or steam clean jute. Water makes it shrink and can leave a brown ring that does not come out.
Living with a jute rug
- For a mark, use a dry-powder carpet cleaner, never water.
- Turn the rug every few months so it wears and fades evenly.
- Put a non-slip pad underneath on marble or tiles.
- Trim a loose strand with scissors rather than pulling it.
- Keep it out of strong afternoon sun, or it fades unevenly.

Does a jute rug suit Dubai's heat, sand and AC?
Indoors, with the AC running, jute is perfectly happy. The trouble starts when a flat is locked up for the summer with the AC off. Humidity climbs, and jute can ripple or go mouldy, so keep the AC ticking over on low while you are away. Sand from the garden or the beach grinds into the weave, so a villa rug needs vacuuming more often than one in a flat.

Can you fit jute carpet wall to wall in Dubai?
Yes. Our own fitters lay jute carpet wall to wall in Dubai homes and offices. Book the free visit and we will bring jute samples, measure every room and work out where any seams go. Then, on the day you pick, we lay it over underlay. Because jute is soft, it is best in bedrooms and quiet rooms. For a hallway, living room or stairs, sisal carpet is tougher.
What to tell us
- Roughly how big each room is, in metres.
- What is on the floor now, whether marble, wood or old carpet.
- Any pets or small children, so the samples suit them.
- Home or office, and which part of Dubai.

Do jute rugs shed?
Yes, at first. A new jute rug sheds most in its first weeks, and a braided or chunky one more than a tight, flat weave; after that it sheds much less, though jute always sheds a little. Vacuum it gently with the brush bar off and shake small rugs outside.
Are jute rugs soft?
Softer than sisal, seagrass or coir, but not as soft as wool or a synthetic pile. A thick braided jute rug feels softest underfoot; a tight flat weave feels firmer and more textured. A jute rug blended with cotton or wool is softer again.
Can a jute rug get wet?
Try not to let it. Jute swells when wet, can shrink as it dries, and often leaves a brown ring where the plant's natural colour comes up. A quick spill, blotted straight away, is usually fine. A leaking AC unit or a freshly mopped floor is not. A pure jute rug cannot go in the washing machine either.
Are jute rugs good with pets?
Mostly. Cats are less drawn to jute than to sisal, though claws can snag on a braided weave. The real problem is accidents. Jute soaks up urine and stains easily, so it is a better choice once a puppy or kitten is house-trained, and any mess needs blotting at once.
Can a jute rug go outside?
Not a real one. A Dubai summer bleaches and weakens jute, and damp turns it brown and then mouldy. The outdoor jute rugs you see in shops are usually polypropylene made to look like jute. For a balcony or terrace, choose an outdoor rug, which we also make to size.
Do jute rugs need a rug pad?
On marble, tiles or wood, yes. A jute rug, a flat weave most of all, can slide on a smooth floor, and a thin non-slip pad underneath holds it in place, protects the floor from the rough backing and helps the rug wear more evenly.
How long does a jute rug last?
Years, in the right room. In a bedroom or a quiet living room, kept dry and vacuumed, a jute rug goes on for a long time. Put it by the front door or in a busy hallway and it flattens and wears out much sooner. That is where sisal does better.
Which areas do you deliver to?
You order a jute rug on WhatsApp and we deliver it to any emirate, from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah. Fitted jute carpet is a Dubai service: we measure for free and our own fitters lay it.
