Custom carpets and rugs in Dubai made to your size

Custom carpets and rugs, made to order for homes and offices in Dubai and across the UAE, in the size you need: any width and length, as a rectangle, a round rug or a runner. Set your size in the rug sizer below and send it to us on WhatsApp. You confirm the order there, pay in cash or by payment link, and the rug is delivered to your address in any of the seven emirates.

How do I measure a room for a custom carpet or rug?

Measure the floor the rug should cover, not the whole room. Size it to the furniture: the sofa and chairs, the bed or the dining table it sits under. Then check the border of floor left to the walls, usually 30 to 45 cm in a living room. Measure in centimetres, mark the outline in low-tack painter's tape and live with it for a day before you order a made-to-measure rug.

  1. Width

Across the rug: yours is 200 cm. On a round rug it is the diameter, the one size a circle needs.

  2. Length

Along the rug, usually its longer side. A round rug has no length of its own.

  3. Area

6 m², about 65 sq ft: width times length, or for a round rug about 79% of the square it fits in.

  4. Grid

Each square is 50 × 50 cm, so you can judge the rug's size at a glance.

  5. Edge

The band just inside the outline is the bound edge, part of the rug. A rug's size is usually taken across its outside, leaving out any fringe, so give the outside size of the rug you want.

What to measure

  • The width and the length of the floor the rug will cover, in centimetres.
  • For a round rug, one number: the diameter, straight across the middle.
  • For a runner, the corridor's width and length, less the floor you want left at the sides and ends.
  • Anything in the way: a door that swings over the rug, a column, a floor vent or a step.

How do you size a custom rug for each room?

Each room has its own rule, set by the furniture the rug sits under; a hallway runner is set by the walls instead, under Runner in the next section. Choose a room for the rule, then put your own sizes into the sizer. The common sizes for every room are in our rug size guide, room by room.

Living room: under the front legs

Make the rug big enough for the front legs of every sofa and chair to stand on it, with 30 to 45 cm of bare floor left to the walls; in a small room, 20 cm is enough. An open-plan lounge often needs 300 × 400 cm, or a size between the standard ones.

What if the walls aren't parallel?

Many rooms are a few centimetres out of true, which only shows once a rug's straight edge sits beside a wall. Measure the width at both ends, the length along both sides and the two diagonals, corner to corner: diagonals that differ by more than a couple of centimetres mean the corners are not square either. Use the smaller figure each way, so the border of floor narrows a little at one end instead of closing to nothing at one corner.

A tape across the room at each end, to check the walls run parallel

Rectangle, round or runner: which shape should a custom rug be?

You can order a custom rug as a rectangle, a round rug or a runner. A rectangle suits most living rooms, bedrooms and dining tables; a round rug suits a round table or a reading corner and softens a square room; a runner is made to the length of a hallway, a kitchen or a bedside. Choose the shape in the sizer, then give the width and length, or the diameter.

A rectangle, the everyday shape

Give the width and the length in centimetres and the rug is made to that size, whether the room needs 170 × 240 cm or 310 × 470 cm. Give the same figure twice for a square rug, under a square table or a square seating group.

300 × 40012 m²An open-plan lounge, a majlis, a dining table for eight

Sizes vary by a few centimetres from one maker to the next, and 200 × 290 or 250 × 350 cm are common too. A custom rug can be any size in between, smaller or bigger; one wider than the roll it is cut from, usually 4 m, takes a seam.

When is a standard size enough?

If a standard size leaves the border of floor you want round the furniture, it does the job. Choose a custom size when the nearest standard size is 20 cm or more out either way, when the room is long and narrow like a majlis, or when the rug must fit between fixed things, such as a kitchen island and a door.

Custom rug, standard-size rug or fitted carpet: which do you need?

A custom rug is made to your size and laid loose, so it can be lifted, cleaned or taken with you when you move. A standard-size rug lies loose too, but comes in set sizes, so it rarely fits a room exactly. Fitted (wall-to-wall) carpet covers the whole floor, laid by our own fitters after a free visit to measure in Dubai. Choose a rug to cover part of the floor, and fitted carpet to cover all of it.

How are custom rugs made?

Across the trade, custom and bespoke rugs are made in a few broad ways. Some are cut to size from a roll of carpet, the edges then bound with tape or overlocked (wrapped in tight stitching); it is the quickest way, and suits plain and textured rugs. Some are tufted, with yarn punched through a backing cloth. Others are woven or hand-knotted on a loom. Some are printed, the design printed onto a plain pile: quick for logos and pictures, though the colour does not run as deep as in dyed yarn. Tufting, weaving and knotting can take a buyer's own colours and patterns, and take longer, hand-knotting the longest.

We show you the options on WhatsApp, including whether your own colours or pattern can be made, and confirm what your rug is made of before you pay. For natural fibre, see jute rugs made in any size.

Where else can a custom rug go?

Wherever it goes, a custom rug is ordered the same way, on WhatsApp; the space changes only how it is sized and what it is made of. Choose a space for its rule.

Balcony or terrace: a rug made for outdoors

Outside, a rug has to cope with sun, sand, humidity and washing down, so outdoor rugs are usually polypropylene or polyester, treated against UV and dyed through the fibre, which sheds water and dries fast. Even these fade after a few summers in full UAE sun. Lift the rug to dry after washing down. We supply weather-resistant outdoor rugs in any size, ordered on WhatsApp.

How much does a custom carpet or rug cost in Dubai?

Each custom carpet or rug is priced per piece, set by its size and by the rug itself: its fibre, its pile, its edge and how it is made. Across the trade, a bigger area, a costlier fibre or more hand work all raise the price. Send your size on WhatsApp and we reply with the price of your rug.

How do I work out a rug's area in square metres?

Multiply the width by the length in metres: 2.4 × 3.4 m is 8.16 m². For a round rug, halve the diameter, square it and multiply by 3.14: a 240 cm round rug is 1.2 × 1.2 × 3.14, about 4.5 m². A runner works like a rectangle: 0.8 × 4 m is 3.2 m². Your rug, as set in the sizer, is 6 m².

Are custom rugs more expensive than standard sizes?

Across the trade, usually yes for the same rug, because a rug made to one order's size costs more to make than one made in a batch. What the extra buys is fit: a rug that holds the furniture and leaves an even border of floor, not one that stops short of the sofa. Send the nearest standard size as well as yours on WhatsApp and ask for a price on both.

Do you deliver custom rugs across the UAE?

Yes. Custom-made rugs are delivered anywhere in the UAE: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. You don't need to be in Dubai to order, because the order and the payment both run on WhatsApp: put your area and emirate in the order. We confirm the delivery charge to your emirate there, with the rug's price, before you pay.

  2. 02Ease a curling end back the other way
  3. 03Set the bed back on it, the rug showing both sides

How do I lay a new rug flat?

A rug that has travelled rolled may curl at the ends for a few days. Unroll it face up where it will lie and roll a curling end loosely back the other way for an hour; on a stiff-backed or jute rug, weight the ends flat instead, since a tight reverse roll can crack the backing. Then set the furniture on it. On marble, tile or vinyl, a felt and natural rubber pad made for hard floors, cut 2 to 3 cm inside the rug's edge, stops it creeping and helps it lie flat; a PVC pad can mark stone and vinyl.

How long does a custom rug take to make?

It depends on the size and how the rug is made, so the time for your rug is confirmed on WhatsApp, with its price, before you pay. Across the trade, a rug cut to size from a roll is the quickest kind to make; tufted and woven rugs take longer, and hand-knotted rugs the longest of all.

What sizes can a custom carpet or rug be?

In the sizer, any width and length from 40 to 1,200 cm, as a rectangle, a round rug or a runner, made to order rather than to a standard size. A rug cut from a roll is one piece up to the roll's width, usually 4 m, with a seam beyond that. For a bigger rug, a long majlis or an awkward room, send the sizes and a photo on WhatsApp, and we tell you how it can be made.

How do I turn a rug size in feet into centimetres?

Multiply each side by 30.48: a 5 × 8 ft rug is about 152 × 244 cm, and a 10 × 14 ft rug about 305 × 427 cm. Sizes in feet are often rounded, so to match a rug you have, measure it instead. The sizer moves in 10 cm steps, so set the nearest and add the exact size to your message if it matters. The rug is made to your size, not the nearest standard one.

Is a custom size worth it for a living room?

Often, because few living rooms match a standard size. The rug's long side should run at least 15 to 20 cm past each end of the sofa, its short side reaching under the front legs of the chairs facing it. A 220 cm three-seat sofa needs a rug at least 250 cm long, so 200 × 300 cm suits it, but an L-shaped sofa or an open-plan lounge often falls between standard sizes, which a custom rug fills exactly.

How do I measure an existing rug?

Lay it flat and measure edge to edge in centimetres, the width and then the length, leaving out any fringe, since rug sizes usually don't count it. Measure each way at both ends, because a rug can be a few centimetres out. For a round rug, measure straight across the middle, then again at right angles. Send the size on WhatsApp to have a new rug made to it.

Is a custom carpet the same as a custom rug?

Often, yes. In the UAE many people say "carpet" for a loose rug, so a custom carpet usually means a rug made to size, ordered here on WhatsApp. If you want the whole floor covered from wall to wall, that is fitted carpet. We measure it at a free visit in Dubai, and our own fitters lay it.
